VALUES OF JOA

Our values are explored through the stories we tell, the songs we sing and the ideas we share. Our mission is to have young people leaving our workshops with a skip in their step.

EMPOWERMENT- Taking creative risks, building new friendships and sharing our perspective empowers us to be the best version of ourselves.

MINDFULNESS - There are many moments in the Arts that challenge us to pause and reflect. It helps us to gain a clear perspective and appreciate the world around us.

PLAY- As the old bard says “The play is the thing”. JOA nurtures our creativity so we are equipped to move through life being able to problem solve and celebrate diversity.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR: Laura Lewis

Laura believes passionately in the power of play - for all ages! With 8 years of teaching Drama in the UK and over 15 years experience in working with young people and adults in Mental Health, Laura has been a Counsellor and Youth and Family Therapist and recognises the need and benefits of creating safe environments for children and adults to connect, use their imaginations and playfully problem solve and explore the world around them.

Laura grew up in a house filled with music from a Mum who taught her the joy of singing and encouraged a love of playing the piano from an early age. Laura has not only performed in but also directed a wide variety of plays, musicals and theatre in education programs. Laura is also a trained mindfulness facilitator and loves to offer breath work and mindful movement sessions, understanding the value and strength this can bring to people.
